Here are some of the podcasts, workshops, books, and people I’ve been nourished by recently. I invite you to sample each and every one of them!
My dear friend Julie Ryan is offering a FREE Zoom event on Saturday March 29th through the Shift Network on Intuitive Body Scanning Made Simple: Tune in to Your Body’s Energy Field for Healing Insights. Julie is one of those rare people who is earthy and practical and just brimming with useful spiritual insights and tools. I adore her and always come away from our conversations feeling both a little more grounded and a lot lighter in spirit. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to work with her! You can find out more and sign up here.
If you haven’t listened to The Telepathy Tapes yet, what are you waiting for? Not only do they transform our notion of consciousness—but they are a testament to the deep listening of mothers and teachers, who will not let kids be written off. I would love to have a conversation about them at our next Monthly Magic for anyone who is interested. I am aware of some of the criticism of them but I’m ready to talk about how such criticism reifies scientific fundamentalism and needs to dismiss what ordinary mothers know about their kids and why it can be so threatening to imagine that their are more ways of being sentient than defined by modern human beings. As someone who wrote a book with a psychic and counts many mediums and intuitives among my dearest friends, I was nodding throughout these episodes.
Its important to remember that expressing such perceptions got women killed in the recent past. Many of you have heard me say, again and again, that we need so much more research and so many more books about the European gyno-cide, the Burning Times, the “Witch” craze, that ushered us into the enlightenment. My dear friend Susan Finkleman became obessesed, as all the best writers do, with her own personal ancestry in Scotland—and what happened to the women accused their of being witches. She’s done amazing research which she’s just begun sharing in her substack, Susan Finkleman and that forms the basis of her historical novel. May her meticulous and fascinating work inspire your own.
To meet a wild witch of West Virginia, I want to introduce you to my friend Mary Porter Kerns—who began to realize that the flowers were speaking to her and that she could hear what they had to say. She has a REVELATORY book coming out soon but while you are waiting for it, hop over to her substack, The Flowers are Speaking, and check out this amazing workshop she is offering in April: Cultivating Joy.
Finally, I am diving in to a book that makes my heart sing with every single word, Tyson Yunkaporta’s glorious irreverent rascally brilliant essential urgent Right Story, Wrong Story: How to Have Fearless Conversations in Hell.
THIS book is the medicine for THESE times. Really. Truly. And if you haven’t read his earlier book, please please go order Sand Talk as well. Today.
This has been an offering to my wider community. I also offer a paid substack that includes excerpts from the books I’m writing and a monthly Zoom conversation about our conversations with the unseen world.
Perdita Finn is the author of Take Back the Magic: Conversations with the Unseen World and the forthcoming Mothers of Magic: Recovering the Love at the Heart of the World. With her husband Clark Strand she is the founder of The Way of the Rose and the co-author of the book of the same name. You can find out more about her workshops and offerings at takebackthemagic.com
Would love to talk about the podcast too! I used to teach kids with autism, and it affirmed many of the inklings i had..
Thanks, Perdita! I signed up for Julie’s offering tomorrow. I heard an interview a few months ago with Tyson Yunkaporta and meant to check out Sand Talk. He is amazing, and now I have to follow up with what I told myself to do.
